Mike Anderson started dancing in 2009 at a country venue in San Diego. It was here that he was introduced to the concept of movement to music. As a former athlete and lifelong musician, dance captured his attention as it was a culmination of two things that he loved. After exploring various dances, West Coast Swing captured his heart. He found joy and a freedom of expression embedded within the technique and personal style of West Coast Swing.
Adopting the training habits from his football days, Mike spent every moment he could training and practicing with various teachers across California. He started competing and has been quickly climbing the ranks. It is during this time that he started developing his passion for the dance and sharing it with others. He believes in finding each individual's dance style, all while embracing quality movement, technique, and partnering.
Teaching is not the only avenue that Mike utilizes to share his love for West Coast Swing. Embracing his love for all styles of music, he began DJing and plays a wide variety of tunes and is always on the hunt for new, exciting music to dance to. In August of 2014, West Coast Swing Champion Ben Morris gave Mike and his girlfriend, Samantha Burnes, the opportunity of a lifetime; to play live music Swingin' the Blues, the premier weekly West Coast Swing dance in all of Southern California. It was met with rave reviews and lead to being hired to play live music at Jay Byam's Palm Springs New Years. Mike and Samantha have been playing locally in San Diego since then.
Today, Mike teaches, competes, DJ's and plays live music all across the United States. He is always willing to dance with anyone and looks forward to seeing you out on the floor!
